Flying to the sky

Sofia kept asking "Daddy, fly to the sky". The girl has no fear.

Sugar Pine '09

So here is a smattering of photos from Sugar Pine '09. We all had a great time and once again Sofia had the best time swimming in the lake.

Sofia and her Dad take this business of eating pancakes very seriously. I just love the looks on their faces in this photo.

High fivin' it with Papa.

Happy happy camping girl. She sure does love being in the great outdoors.

Not too bad of a place to have a time out (or a time up as Sofia calls it). Can't remember what the girl did to deserve her time out. I think it had something to do with hitting Jake.

Sofia's friend Jake came up with us but unfortunately a tummy bug got the best of him and he had to go home. Maybe he'll have better luck next year.

Sitting around the camp fire.

Hiking down to the lake.

Floatin' floatin' floatin'. We took "Jaffa" up to the lake in the hopes that we would get a little sailing in but there was not a breath of wind. It seems that floating on lounge chairs in the water was our best bet.

My little bathing beauty.

Our camp hosts extrordinaire.....Jon

and Darlene.

And our final night sitting around the campfire.

Nice hat Daddy.

Hellooooo

Totally Pooped

This weekend was our annual trip camping up to Sugar Pine Lake. Sofia had such a great time but the poor child was plain worn out. We took a shower and she sat on the couch to watch a bit of Dora and within a couple of minutes was out cold in the middle of the laundry and didn't move a muscle for over three hours.

Happy Father's Day (a little belated)

This little face is what it is all about. Happy Father's Day a little late to all. Here are a couple of snaps of Sofia spending time with two of her favourite boys...her daddy and her papa.

Growing Up

My little girl is growing up. I know I keep saying this but this weekend was full of big steps for Sofia and this photo is somehow further evidence of that. She is just getting so big.

Firstly, we converted Sofia's crib to a big girl bed and knock on wood, so far, so good! She loves that she can climb up into bed all by herself and hasn't as of yet fallen out of bed. The fact that she can't open the door all by herself yet helps as well. We shall see, I guess.

Sofia also went on the big girl potty this weekend. Not once, but four times. It was too funny. She sits there and looks down between her legs and says "Hello pee" (she is pretty big on greeting things, pee included apparently). Then when she flushes she provides the appropriate "Bye pee". We haven't really started formal potty training but I can see that it is in the not too distant future.

Sofia is also full of new words and phrases most of which I have no idea where they came from, but they are so damn cute. Here are a few of my favourites......

When I came home tonight I noticed that Clyde had cleaned my boat. I said to Sofia "Did Daddy wash my boat?" to which she relied "Yes, all fresh and clean".

Whenever she leaves the room she says "Right back, okay?" along with a little finger she holds up just to emphasis her point.

When I tell Sofia that we are going to do something she says "We'll do that. It's a plan".

Birdie Update

So, a week and a half after they hatched here is an update picture of our five wee peeps. They seem to be doing well although not really much more attractive than they were last week. Mama bird is feeding them, the evidence of which lines the bird nest and my very expensive succulent wreath. Not sure that my wreath is going to make it back from this but I guess it is worth it all to see nature at work up this close and personal. Sofia is getting a real kick out of watching the baby birds.

Fun times

Summer in the Quick household has finally begun. Clyde is off work for the summer and fun times have just begun. To kick off the season, we met Geema and Papa in Chico for a weekend camping. And how cool is this? In Chico, they have damned off parts of the Sacramento River and created these swimming holes. Beautiful! We were there early in the morning so it was a little chilly for a dip but okay for a little paddling. Had we allowed it, I have no doubt that Sofia would have been in boots and all.

Then off to the playground for slides, slides and yes, more slides. Sofia has never been a fan of swings, but give the girl a slippery slope to slide down and you have one very happy camper.

Back to the campground for some swimming. I will let the following pictures speak for themselves. Needless to say, the smile could not be wiped from the girls face and we had to drag her kicking, screaming and shivering out of the pool......both times. I cannot get over how much this child loves to be in the water. It makes my heart so happy to see how much she loves it.

They're here

Look what happened today. Mama bird hatched three (that we can see) wee baby birds. Right now all we can see is a big ball of fuzz but Clyde definately saw six big eyes looking up at him, so we know we have at least three babies. We still have at least one intact egg also. Not sure if it will hatch but we will keep an eye out. So, there you have it.

Sofia has been so cute about the nest on the front door although she seems to be a bit confused about why we have to come and go using the back door. We have told her that we have to exit via the back door because we don't want to scare the bird. Sofia's translation every time we leave is "scary bird".

My Little Fashionista

So my days of dressing my little girl up exactly the way I want are over. The perfect accessories in Sofia's opinion tonight......brown flip flops and a leopard skin headband. How can you argue with a smile like that?

Lazy Weekend

Summer is about to begin. Clyde has only one week of school left before he gets to enjoy a summer hanging with Sofia. Somehow though, we have managed to get ourselves booked up with commitments (in a good way), so we took advantage of a lazy weekend before the choas begins. So much so that Sunday didn't even warrant a shower. Eewwwwwww!

Here are some of my favourite moments.

Sofia and Clyde enjoyed breakfast in the back yard. Sofia loves turning everything into a sandwich. Here she has a Marmite toast sandwich.

Sof swam. In several different pools in several neighbours yards. The water wasn't exactly warm and at one point Sofia was sitting in the pool, shivering her little tooshie off trying to convince Jake and Peter that they should get in as well. The boys weren't going for it but Sof stayed true and kept swimming until we dragged her home.

Here is Sof's cheese face.

Fresh peas from the Farmer's Market. Sofia was eating them like candy.

Another pose, this time with fresh mint from the garden for the peas.
