Goodnight Wiki

This morning Sofia came into our bedroom carrying her Kiwi Shapes book. She climbed up into bed and we proceeded to read her book. On the last page the kiwi is sleeping in his bed under the stars and crescent moon. Sofia says "Shhhhhhh, Night Night Wiki".

Oh how could this one little sentence not bring back floods of memories of the real "Goodnight Kiwi". We knew if we were watching the Goodnight Kiwi we had stayed up WAY past our bedtime. And, thanks to You Tube I was able to share this with my family. For those of you who don't know, before 24 hour television the Goodnight Kiwi signaled the end of nightly broadcasts in New Zealand. He last aired in 1994.

Okay.....gotta go now. One little person is sitting next to me saying "Wiki...again".

Coming ready or not!

Sof's idea.....if you can't see me, you can't put me in my jammies and put me to bed. Didn't work but nice try Sofia!

Super Cute Goodies

Okay, check out the super cute ensemble that Miss Sofia is modeling over her jammies. It came to her from a friend of ours, hand knitted and just beautiful. Laura.....it is perfect and will do her well for the rest of the winter and I just adore the pompoms. We will try to get a better shot for you once we get outside.

Our Tiny Tumbler

Check out the moves of our wee gymnast. After Sofia started doing forward rolls in our living room we signed her up for a tiny tumblers class. Today was her second class and she had a blast jumping into the foam pit and climbing up the ladder. She also did some pretty serious jumping on the trampoline. Watch out cousin SAM, Sof may just jump rings around you next time she sees you.

Citation

Check out the girlie riding her new horse. I know Daddy said she was never ever allowed to have a pony, but guess what? She's only two and already she has one!! Okay, so maybe this one doesn't require quite as much maintenance as the real thing but it is her pony none-the-less.

This is Citation. He was given to Sofia for her second birthday by Geema and Papa and he belonged to Sofia's Daddy and before that he was Geema's rocking horse when she was a little girl. The original plan was to give Citation a makeover of sorts but in the end, it was decided to keep him in his original condition. I kind of like the idea that Citation wears the scars of the many hours of fun that her Daddy and Geema had playing on him.

Anyway, Sofia steered clear of Citation for the first five days or so, but the other night when she was getting ready for bed, she decided to give it a go and I don't think there will be any stopping her now.

Happy Birthday Party Day

So Miss Sofia's 2nd birthday falls on a Tuesday this year. And not just any Tuesday....her birthday falls on Tuesday, January 20th!!! So, in an effort not to overshadow Barack's little shindig, and give Geema and Papa a chance to attend an Inaugeration party, we had a "Happy Birthday Party Day" for Sof on Sunday. Nothing major....just pasta, presents, cake and family. All of the things the girlie loves.

Daddy made pancakes for breakfast and Sofia ate eight, yes you heard me correctly, EIGHT pancakes. Yes, they were mini pancakes, but quite a feat none-the-less.

Aunty Claire, Uncle Bruce and the kids sent monster bowling - WHAT FUN!! We bowled in our PJ's for much of the morning.

When do we get the open presents, Papa?

Sofia and her new bestest buddy, Dora. Although she was a little unsure of Dora at first, I am happy to report that tonight Dora is tucked up tight with Sofia in bed. Now that makes a total of eight stuffed toys (the chosen ones) and one little girl who must receive a goodnight kiss. That takes some serious time people and heaven forbid you forget one. Sofia knows. She will repeat over and over the one you missed until you correct your error and provide the poor neglected toy a kiss on the forehead.

Sofia's new sleeping bag was a hit.....with everybody.

Sofia insisted that Barclay would like it if he layed his head down on the pillow. Mummy had to convince Barclay that it would be a good thing. BJ is such a sweet dog and very patient.....he reluctantly gave Sofia her wish.

Even Jeeves got in on the act.

Barclay John and his mate "Dog".

Everyone tucked up tight.

OHHHHHH CAKE!

Give us a kiss?

HAPPY HAPPY 2ND BIRTHDAY PARTY DAY, SOFIA!!!

Mates

This is Sofia and Peter hanging out together last night. This was the first time that they have really sort of played with each other. Well, there were a few two year old moments - I won't deny that, but for the most part they had fun playing the piano, jumping on Sofia's bed and playing with the dolls house. Sofia even showed Peter how to do a forward roll. There were cute kids flinging themselves all around our living room.

Happy Birthday to Me

Well, there you have it.....another year rocks on by. How does this keep on happening? Tonight when Claire and the kids called to wish me Happy Birthday along with a lovely serenade from SAM on his cornet, Claire happened to let slip just how old I was. SAM said "Forty-one?" like he just couldn't believe it. Is this a good thing or a bad thing? On one hand, maybe he couldn't believe that Aunty Mimi could possibly be that old. Or maybe from a 12 year olds point of view 41 seems like an ancient relic. Oh well....the numbers don't really matter. The most important thing is my wonderful family, my awesome friends and the fact that I am happier than ever. I have a sneaking feeling that year number 42 is going to be one of the best yet.

Geema and Papa joined us for dinner out. Does this kid love her grandparents or what? I am so thankful that Sofia gets to have this wonderful relationship with them.

My wonderful husband and daughter. What more could a mama want?

Happy Family.

When we got back from dinner our awesome friends had left treats for us. Cookies and chocolate dipped strawberries. Yeah, look at Sof chow down on those "bessies". Seems like I am going to have to fight for my berries now. She downed two of them before I had even had a chance. Thank you Meg and Dan and Sarah and Tad for the wonderful treats. You spoil us and we love it :-)!!

Ch...Ch...Changes

There are changes afoot in the Quick household tonight. With a birthday looming it is impossible to ignore the fact that our little girl is growing up.

Out of pure necessity, okay maybe aided by the excess of new toys she received for Christmas and well, to be perfectly honest, Sofia is just getting bigger, we moved the furniture around in her room, got some new toy bins and moved her changing table out. Tonight, a lovely young couple who are expecting their first child came and bought it off us.

I don't know why I am having such a hard time with this. Maybe because it is the first real big piece of her babyhood that has gone. Since we don't live in a big house and don't have a lot of storage we don't have the luxury of saving and holding on to things. Maybe this is a good thing....it forces us to move on. All I can say though is thank goodness she is still sleeping in her crib. If I am having an issue with saying goodbye to her changing table, heaven help me when she moves into her big girl bed.

Random Cute Moments

How sweet is this? Here is Papa helping Sofia to fly with her snowman, just like in the movie.

Our little artist. Sofia seems to like her new easel but more that anything she likes to organize and reorganize her bottles of paint.

New Years football with champagne corks in hand. Seems to me that champagne corks were a hit last New Year as well.

Taking a big bite of her apple.
