Water Rat

We signed Sofia up for some swimming classes this summer.
She loves being in the water but doesn't much love having to hang with Mum and Dad anymore.
She can do everything by herself don't you know.

The first class went swimmingly and we expect GREAT things by the end of summer.
If only the tile turtle at the bottom of the pool didn't frighten her so.

Don't you just love the PINK goggles?

Off to the Island

We took one afternoon and headed off on the ferry (or fairy to Sofia) to Coronado Island for some serious beach time. It was a perfect afternoon and if my camera hadn't bit the dust I would be able to show you a photo of us eating dinner beachside (yes again!!).

I am fairly certain that one of these houses is going to be waiting for me in my next life.

Happy Father's Day

Three year's ago
we spent Father's Day
with one sweet little girl
in Guatemala.

This photo was taken at Clydes first Father's Day breakfast.
It was one of the few times Sofia actually fell asleep
during the whole five days we were there.

Three year's later,
Sofia still has her own agenda when it comes to sleep.

But one thing is for sure......

.......she is smitten with her Daddy.

Stuper-Star

Whenever Sofia puts her sunglasses on she says "Stuper-Star"

but....

even Stuper-Star's need to put their sunscreen on.

What we love about camping - Part 3

There are more than enough hours in the day to paint our fingers and toes 50 times over if we choose to.

Sofia is obsessed with painted fingers and toes.
She will always compliment someone if she thinks they have chosen to paint their nails a beautiful colour.
PINK is her favourite.
Usually the request to paint her nails comes as we are struggling to get our two non-morning loving bodies out the door to go to work / school.  My sharp "NO" has resulted in more than one ugly meltdown (I'm not telling which one of us has the ugliest meltdown though).
This week, while we were camping, it was such a pleasure to sit together, outside, just the girls and paint our nails.

Legoland Fun

Here are some photos of our day at Legoland.

Sofia was thrilled with it all, but especially this elephant.  She was quite smitten with him.

Getting ready to go on the Fairy Tale Brook.....a very mild water ride.  Sofia was pretty much a nervous wreck on the boat ride the entire time.  I'm really not sure what to make of all that since several hours later she went on the roller coaster and came off saying "let's do that again".

The train ride that she insisted on doing all by herself.

And the Lego Driving School.  I have to tell you that Sofia earned her "driver's license" even though she didn't make it a quarter lap around the circuit.  It was super sweet though when she got done, she unbuckled her belt and then went and helped all the other kids get their belts undone.  She is the most super sweet kid sometimes.

We waited in line quite cheerfully.

Rode helicopters and planes.

And of course there were an endless supply of Lego's to play with.

We visited San Francisco.....

Las Vegas.....

Mount Rushmore.......

and New York City.

And this was our last, half hearted attempt at a smile.

We were folded over in half, fast asleep by 4:30 in the afternoon.

I think that qualifies as a successful day.

Don't ask me why.....

.....but there is just something so sweet about this picture.

What we love about camping - Part 2

Swimming.
Any chance we get, Sofia has been begging to get in the pool but unfortunately the mid-60's weather doesn't make it quite so appealing for Mum and Dad.

She has become a regular little monkey on the stairs and doesn't mind getting her head under at all but she does not want any help from anyone else, thank you very much.
Swim lessons start for real on Monday.  Hopefully with a full summer in the pool we will be in a good place to move beyond the stairs.

Look who we found at Legoland!!

Cukoo Butt Pants

I don't know who started the whole Cukoo Butt Pants thing, but that is what Sofia and Kristen call each other.  I am fairly certain that my daughter provided the middle word and more than likely the last one as well.  I'll put money on Kris for being the "Cukoo" in this little equation.

I am also fairly certain that it is some sort of strange term of endearment because it was pretty clear that these two were having a grand old time together.

Kristin was my rock at work through the whole adoption process.  She filled out paperwork, listened to all of my rants, was hovering over my shoulder when I first layed eyes on Sofia and covered for me while I was in Guatemala.  I miss my friend terribly now that she has moved away but it made my heart happy to see the two of them goof off together.

Shark Bait Beach

We spent a portion of the afternoon at "Shark Bait Beach".  Okay so that's not it's real name....I don't know what that is, but shortly before Kristin moved down here there was a guy who was eaten by a shark right here at this beach and I was trying everything I could to discourage my friend from moving 500 miles away.

Didn't work and who can blame her really.

Sof didn't care.  She literally jumped her way down to the beach and after an initial bit of hesitation ended up leaving the beach with soaking wet pants.

And, not a shark in sight.
