Bookworm
Every morning before we leave for work, Sofia completely empties her bookcase of books throwing them on the floor one by one. Then she sits in the middle of them and chooses one to read. She doesn't seem to like it when we read to her....she prefers to do it herself thank you very much, flipping pages one at a time until it is time to leave.

Baby no more!
It seems with each passing day we get another piece to the puzzle that is our daughter. She just gets funnier and funnier, and it is hard to capture in pictures all the goofy things she does because she is moving a mile a minute and has no time to pose for photos.
She loves her wee chair and it just cracks me up to see the way she makes herself comfy in it. I mean seriously, who taught her to sit like this?
We have also received word from school that she is a bully. A food bully that is. According to Miss Wendy, when the kids sit down to eat, Sofia is stealing the food from the big kids next to her. Unfortunately, on Friday, that kid just happened to be my bosses daughter. YIKES!!! Anyone would think we don't feed the child but I can assure you that is not the case. Just check out the dinner leftovers on her face.
Oh, by the way.....thanks for the skirt Molly. It fits Sofia perfectly now.

A Super Sunny Sunday
With all the rain and gloom we have been having we made the most of a wonderful weekend of sunshine in Northern California and headed down the Delta for a picnic.
....we had lots and lots of wonderful picnic food.
....we flew up to the blue sunny sky.
....we laughed together and shared some good jokes.
....and we played in the cold fountain water!
And then we relaxed and lounged about! Now, we welcome back the rain again. Oh well, spring will soon be here.

This time last year.....
.....these pictures popped up on my computer screen at work of a little girl in Guatemala who was going to become our daughter. My hand was shaking so much as I tried to write down all the information they gave me and I just couldn't stop looking at her picture wondering what she was like. Well, one year later I can tell you she is just perfect. Happy referral day to us :-)

Our doll and her dolls
Sofia, all ready for our breakfast outing this morning. While it did turn into a beautiful day today, this morning was still a bit chilly. Nothing like a sassy red sweater to warm things up!
This afternoon we made a trip to one of the better toy stores in this area. We usually go there because it is right by our Trader Joes. However, we received the sad news that they are going out of business and everything was on sale. Every time we go there I look in the doll cabinet at the Madame Alexander dolls. They have always had this beautiful little doll from New Zealand but I could never justify spending the amount of money on it that they wanted. Well, you guessed it, how could I ignore the SALE!!! You should be proud that it was the only thing we came out of there with.
She posed tonight with her friends.....the doll we bought Sofia in Guatemala and the gorgeous doll from Alaska she was sent for her birthday. I love that she is getting such a wonderful collection and from all over the world.

Big Girl Ponies
So even though I had a little melt down having to clean Sof's closet out of her baby clothes, there has been an upside. I have been waiting for ages to have her fit into this beautiful outfit from New Zealand. I hope you are seeing this Ruth. Is that not the cutest thing ever? For her new outfit we abandoned Sofia's trademark volcano do and replaced it with a couple of big girl ponytails. Well, the ponies lasted for a while, but the clips (4 of them) holding back the wayward strands in front only lasted a matter of minutes. When exactly do they stop putting anything and everything in their mouth???

Big Girls Don't Cry
Okay, well maybe a little bit! Our big girl had her 1 year doctors appointment this week. It went well and she is doing all the things a one year old should do. She gave the good doctor the classic Sofia stare down. For those of you who have met Sofia, you know how that goes. She was weighed and measured - 19lbs 14.6oz (9.032kg) the 28.52 centile and 2'5" (0.730M) tall, the 35th centile, which is not too bad for our wee Guatemalan girl. And then they gave her four, yes four, shots. Three in her leg and a TB test in her arm. She only cried a little and of course Mum sat back and couldn't watch for fear of colapsing in a heap on the floor. Heaven help me the first time she scrapes a knee and I have to deal with that.
These measurements would explain why Sofia's clothes are all getting a little tight. Well, that and the vast quantities of food she is consuming. She has been sleeping a lot lately too......I wonder if that is all connected with the growing thing. She seems to have just shot up and so, I have started purging her closet of all the baby clothes she just doesn't fit anymore. On my way through I found this little dress we had bought on our first trip to Guatemala. I had great plans of her wearing it on her first birthday. Well, lo and behold, it is so stinkin' tight on her and way way too short. We put it on (just) to get a couple of photos but unfortunately it will also have to go in the too small bin. Our girl is just plain growing up and I am not ready for that.
The word on the street is that she also slept on a mat at school with the big kids and not in her crib on Friday. Now how do you think Miss Wendy made her do that? Could it be peer pressure at school already?
Check out the little mark still from her TB test :-(
And, check out those new monster two top teeth. All the better to eat a New York steak with Mummy!! Bring on the good stuff, will ya?
