Laughter and Sillyness

Sofia has been laughing. I'm not talking about a little giggle, but a full on belly laugh. I don't think that Clyde and I have suddenly become super funny but rather I am hoping that Sofia is becoming comfortable and happy here.

Oh yeah.....and here's what happens when Dad is left alone to bath the girl. I shudder to imagine what hair-dos are in the poor child's future!!!

A day with Sofia.

Every morning after we get up and have breakfast Sofia and I play on the floor for an hour or so on her favourite blanket with her favourite toys. These include her stacking cups, her wooden blocks and her Marylou doll. Usually Barclay is involved somehow, but he has become a little camera shy. If you look carefully though, you might just be able to spot him keeping a watchful eye on his girl.

Todays blog post is brought to you by the upside down letter F and the green letter R.

Per my previous post, notice the toes!!!

This afternoon, we braved the local dining scene. We went to our wonderful Tower Cafe, sat outside and thoroughly enjoyed a lovely meal. Sofia had a whole bunch more cantelope (she has now eaten the whole thing single handedly)!! Thanks for the cool placemat Aunty A - this cantelope can be messy stuff.

The walk home from dinner. Might be time for another hair cut......you think?

Ready for bed in what have to be the cutest jammy jims ever.

Sof's Toes

This is the way Sofia's toes curl whenever she is sitting up. I don't know if it is from concentration or if she needs them to be like this so she doesn't fall over but it is the cutest damn thing!!!

Peek-a-boo

Firsts and Favourites

Jeeves stuck around in the bathroom with me while I had my bath.

We went to the Farmers Market and I ate fresh cantelope......lots of it!!

I played with my Marylou doll.

My first time on a swing.

I went to the park with my Mum and Dad.

Hanging around upside down.

The Perfect Raspberry

Oh my sweetie pie....my angel face. Just look at that gorgeous girl.

When we brought Sofia home just two short weeks ago she was a delightful baby. She had the most pleasant repertoire of babbles and coos and little squeals. I guess nothing lasts forever and clearly my days of sweet goo goos and gaa gaas are over. These have been replaced by the much more entertaining and expressive RASPBERRY.

What is truely remarkable, is the variety of raspberries the girl has mastered in such a short time. Of course, there is the classic "stick your toungue out and blow" raspberry, and the "this looks strangely like my Dad's trumpet embourchoure buzz" raspberry (wonder where she learnt that one?). Then there is the "no more candy bars for you" raspberry, whereby the little love buries her face into Mum's ample flesh and blows. The more spit with this one the better it seems and when administered correctly gets a huge giggle. The "mouth full of sweet potato" raspberry is fast becoming a dinner time favourite. Yeah, probably no fine dining restaurants in our immediate future.

Konked Out!

I was sitting on the floor writing some cards and looked up to find my darling konked out in her Jumperoo. Guess that 45 minute afternoon nap wasn't enough.

What a difference a day makes.

Well, it has been a week and a half since we arrived home with Sofia and we are finally starting to find our routine. She went two days without taking a nap. We tried everything we could think of but the girl just refused to shut her eyes during daylight hours. The one saving grace is that she did sleep through the night. The poor thing was so pooped that she cried all through her bath (which she usually loves) and she cried at poor Barclay if he just looked at her wrong.

Yesterday however was our turning point. Turns out the girl will nap on the floor. Seems she doesn't like the crib much so the floor it is. She took two lovely naps yesterday and therefore played with Barclay, ate her food and thoroughly loved her bath again. She has just awoken from this mornings nap - yes on the floor, will go take a long walk with my now smiling again girl.

Sofia's home

I am afraid this won't be a long post.....I am too pooped but oh so happy to report that we survived the hurricane, the election and the plane trip home from Guatemala. My house is a mess and I've hardly slept but Sofia is here, healthy and happy and we couldn't be more thrilled.

She has coped so well with all that has been thrown her way this week and aside from refusing to nap seems to be adjusting well to her new home. She and Barcaly are best mates already and our usually terrified dog seems to somehow know that this little person won't hurt him. He is a changed dog and it is so wonderful to see. Barclay always gets a smile from "his" girl. Jeeves is just ignoring her probably in the hopes that she will just go away - sorry Jeeves!!

Sofia got to meet her Grandad in Los Angeles. He surprised us at the airport there after making the trip from New Zealand - how cool is that? We went to the beach for a wonderful picnic provided our super awesome friend "Tuatara".

Alright....I've gotta go. Sleep beckons. More updates to follow.
